The Data We Collect

We collect data that visitors’ leave in the comment section of the site. Along with the data in the comments form, we also collect the visitor’s browser user agent string and IP address to facilitate spam detection.

Sometimes we provide and anonymised string from your email address to the Gravatar service to see if you are still using it. It is post approval that your profile picture is publicly visible.

The website visitors can download or extract any data location from the images on the website. So, while uploading images on the website, you should avoid the ones with embedded location data that includes EXIF GPS.

Cookies

Upon leaving a comment on our site, you may opt in to save your email address, name and website in cookies. We inform you these for your convenience and safety – so that you do not have to fill in details again when leaving another comment. However, the cookies last for one year. On visiting our login page, we set a temporary cookie that determines if the browser accepts cookies. It usually contains no personal data and gets discarded when the browser gets closed.

When logged in, we set up several cookies that save you login information and also the screen display choices. This login cookie lasts for two days while the screen options cookies last for a year. On selecting ‘remember me’, the login persists for two weeks. When you log out of the account, the login cookie gets removed.

Upon publishing or editing an article, additional cookies get saved in the browser. This cookie includes zero personal data while simply indicating the post ID of the edited article. It usually expires after one day.
